Work Search Strategies Part One

Resumes and Cover Letters

Participants will be able to identify the successful components of an effective resume and cover letter. The workshop will provide participants with information on what employers look for in resumes, and help them to create a more effective and streamlined resume.

 

Thursday, March 4

Work Search Strategies Part Two

Effective Work Search

1:00 - 3:30pm

 

Participants will learn the basics of how to look for employment. The workshop will provide participants information on online resources, effective networking strategies and how to access the hidden job market.

 

Tuesday, March 9

Career Planning One

Self Assessment

1:00 - 3:30pm

 

Participants will learn how to identify their personal skills, abilities and assets, apply them to employment search and career planning, and market themselves accordingly. The workshop will educate participants on the value and benefits of self assessment; provide information on where to access self assessments and suggestions as to what to do with this information upon completion of a self assessment. Participants will leave the workshop with more confidence in their skills and a clear idea of what sort of employment they are suited to.

Career Planning Two

Career Plans

Participants will learn how to map a career plan based on self assessment results, skills and interests. The workshop will provide participants with the tools and resources to make informed career decisions.

 

 

Tuesday, March 16

Labour Market Part One

1:00 - 3:00pm

 

Participants will learn to recognize and define elements of the labour market, as well as identify and understand the major influences on the labour market. 

 

 

Thursday, March 18

Labour Market Part Two

1:00 - 3:30pm

 

 

Participants will be able to identify trends within the labour market and where to find this information. This workshop covers interpretation and review of occupational forecasts, as well as access to labour market information.

Participants will be able to describe their rights in the workplace and identify a plan for disclosure if they intend to do so. The workshop will introduce participants to rights and responsibilities in the workplace, the human rights, citizenship and multiculturalism act, disclosure, duty to accommodate and undue hardship.
