Outdoor Program Facilitator
Prospect, one of Alberta’s most innovative and leading non-profits, is seeking a skilled Outdoor Program Facilitator to join our team. You will have experience working with people with a broad range of disabilities including mental illness and developmental disabilities.
Reporting to the Community Access Supervisor, this position supports adults with developmental disabilities to become more fully engaged in their communities and the workforce. Using outdoor pursuits and recreation as tools, the Program Facilitator works directly with clients to develop employability skills. The Program Facilitator also works to integrate, develop and maintain collaborations within the outdoor community.
Primary Responsibilities:
The following list details the primary functions that this role is accountable for and the elements Prospect uses to determine performance. It is not designed to detail every task which may be asked of you, and should not be interpreted as such.
• Works directly with Prospect clients, providing behavioural support, in order to teach and expand employability skills.
• Participates in program planning and development in accordance with client goals and Prospect policies.
• Actively seeks out partners in the outdoor and recreation communities for the purposes of developing new relationships as well as the support and maintenance of these and existing relationships.
• Prepares for and facilitates programs with clients including but not limited to hiking, indoor climbing, leadership programs, biking, cross-country skiing and low impact fitness.
• Participates in ongoing program and outdoor specific risk management including establishment and monitoring of policies and procedures in these areas.
• Maintains open communication with all departments within the community access team.
• Supports the creation and completion of goals for clients.
• Maintains strong working knowledge of accreditation standards.
• Maintains accurate and timely reports
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an employee must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
• Degree or certificate in related field from a recognized post secondary institution or experience in a similar role
• Exceptional oral and written communication skills
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office products is considered an asset
• Previous experience with behaviour guidance is considered an asset
• Valid class 4 driver’s license or the ability to obtain one
• Current Wilderness First Aid would be considered an asset
