Employment Counselor

Summary

This position is located at our Rockyview office in Cochrane and will Report to the Program manager. This direct service position is responsible for assisting clients in job search and career development activities and setting goals that will result in viable and sustainable employment.

Primary Responsibilities

The following list details the primary functions that this role is accountable for and the elements Prospect uses to determine performance. It is not designed to detail every task that may be asked of you, and should not be interpreted as such.

• Identify Client career development needs and attainable employment goals by: conducting service needs determination assessments; conducting employability assessments; and developing service plans for clients

• Facilitate successful client job searches by: orientating clients to services provided by Rockyview Employment Services; providing employment counseling; critiquing and composing resumes, cover letters and reference sheets; developing and facilitating workshops centralized on job search and career development techniques; referring clients to alternative services in the community as needed; assisting clients in the utilization of office equipment such as faxes, photocopiers, computers and printers, maintaining an accurate and up to date job posting board, and maintaining a relevant and current knowledge of the local labour market

• Increase the profile of Rockyview Employment Services in the community by: representing and marketing our services to employers, local businesses, organizations and other community partners, accepting and posting job ads from community employers, and attending local career and information fairs as necessary

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an employee must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

• Degree or certificate in related field from a recognized post secondary institution and 2 to 3 years experience in a similar role (equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered)

• Exceptional oral and written communication skills

• Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office products

• Previous experience with MOBIUS software would be considered an asset
